District Attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit Ken Mauldin said he will resign if his wife, Allison Mauldin, ousts Superior Court Judge Eric Norris in the May 22 Primary.
Allison is the chief assistant district attorney for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, which serves Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam and Wilkinson counties. The Western Judicial Circuit serves only Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties.
Ken said that if Allison won, he would resign when she took office in January 2019. Ken’s term expires at the end of 2020. Gov. Nathan Deal would make an appointment to fill the unexpired term and that person would likely run for election to serve a subsequent full term.
“She has supported me all these years,” Ken said of Allison.
Allison has 28 years of trial experience as a criminal prosecutor. In 2008, she was named Assistant District Attorney of the Year Award for the state of Georgia.
Incumbent Superior Court Judge Eric Norris was appointed in 2016. He served 11 and a half years as a magistrate judge and has run a successful private practice.
In related news, Athens attorney Lisa Lott will challenge newly appointed Superior Court Judge Regina Quick in the May 22 Primary. Both aforementioned judgeships are nonpartisan.
